Pete R's Birthday More than "Lipservice"

We love the Spazzmatics. They are so fun. The only thing that’s not fun is worrying about the line/rope policy (total rarity for a 'pay your cover' rock club, and on Sundays no less). But now we worry about something more.
The Spazzmatics are the new wave answer to Metal Skool – both outstanding cover bands. Same High school (Hollywood), Same Class ('87 ish) and same style (costumed). Spazzies dress like nerds, replete with neck braces and pocket protectors, and play “A-HA” and “Tears for Fears” to a packed house at the grimy rockbar “Dragonfly” ...taking the stage at midnight each Sunday night – a total rock and roll witching hour of the week.
On July 9, in honor of Pete Rappaport’s 24th, an impressive cadre rallied for a non Holiday weekend outing (a total rarity). Pete (Framingham High '00, Ithaca '04, Mortgage Refi '06) to top it off, it was the swan song of a 10 day mini-vacation for many people. Fearless of the week ahead were: Andrea O, some random long lost friend from Framingham he ran in to waiting in line outside, a sleeveless jean jacket I pulled from my closet, and a welcome homecoming outing for couple of the summer 2005, “Elyssa and Dax”.
A non-holiday Sunday night beverage intake led to a disappointing revelation by everyone….around song 3 and drink 2, we first noticed the heavy reliance on a DJ hunkered down in the back of the bar and literal air guitar, ruining my prior perception of 1980s frat house band put in a time capsule…..very disappointing. Still a great time and mandatory pre-requisite for all Dead Babbys band members.
UPDATE: While Searching for photos and links for this entry, I discovered the Spazzmatics are actually a syndicate, like Wendy's, and there are many versions of them around the country. Totally and utterly disillusioned.
