Bad Week for the Osmonds

Marie Osmond (Donnie and Marie '75, Depressed Wacko 'current) announced on Friday (3.30) that she's divorcing her not famous husband. The stock photo (left) yahoo dug up implied she shares fitness secrets with Monica Lewinsky (Cigar "Smoker" '96, Univ of Oregon'97,Taco Eater 'always). Meanwhile, brother Donny Osmond hosted a "demented and wrong" ABC reality show, "The Great American Dream Vote", straight to cancellation in two days this week, exonerating Matt Kunitz's record of 4, with 2006's The One. Congrats to all!

Elliot Yamin and Jewfro Celebrates 96,000 Records Sold

Elliot Yamin (American Idol '06, Jewfro '07, Camp Young Judaea 'honorary) celebrated his album's release, at fresh dive bar hotspot Winston's last night (3.27.07). 150 "close friends and family" packed shoulder to shoulder "Austin-style" for a 5 song set. Elliot closed with a good cover of "Roxanne" by The Police, on the same night that Chris Sligh (American Idol '06, Irish-fro '07) stumbled through his version of another Police classic "Every Little Thing She Does is Magic".

Monet Corso (Mater Dei H.S. '98, MTV '99, Three Ring Projects '07) told us that he surprised everyone by selling 96,000 albums the first week and is #3 on the charts. Elliot told us he is too busy to watch this season of Idol, but that our hotly contested A.I. office pool was a good idea because "obviously, I'm a big fan too."

Special LA Appearance by Kirk Bedell (Deerfield '94, Trinity '98) above.

Thanks to Monet for hosting a great party, celebrating a birthday, creating a top 10 artist, and taking good care of us.

Georgetown - Final Four Festing

Georgetown University's N St. after the Hoyas beat UNC to go to the final four. (Sunday 3.25.07, 8 PM)

Georgetown, a school in the jesuit tradition - a tradition that introduced alcohol to the natives of the "New World" - celebrated the final four.

A student's first hand account of March Madness

When overtime hit people came out of the houses, ripped off their shirts, ran into the streets and started running and screaming. A riot formed on the library steps and took up a block of N Street between 36th and 37th. Someone started lighting fireworks in their front yard (no professionals.. kinda scary). Non-stop chanting of "hoya saxa." "Fuck Ohio State." "Roy roy roy roy.." "Jeff Green's Mom." (unclear about the last one..)

Read the all the details of a campus run to the white house and the full email here

Ed Abele (Deerfield '94, UNC Swim Captain '98) pre-ordained this outcome earlier in the week with this email to Eddie Amorosi (St. David's '90, Deerfield '94, Georgetown '98, Merril Lynch 'current):

From: Edward Abele
Sent: Wednesday, March 21, 2007 11:19 AM
To: Edward.Amorosi; Francisco Garcia Tunon (Deerfield '93, Georgetown '97); Spencer Robertson (Deerfield '93, UNC '97)

Subject: Memorable rematch??

"Ammo, College athletics is no longer about student athletes it is about WINNING. If I wanted to boast about academic awards I would have gone to PRINCENTON (sic)."
At "Princenton" it might have been about both. Where are you Ben Heyworth? (Greenwich Country Day '91, Cum Laude '93 (a year early), Deerfield '94, Princeton LAX Champions '96, '97, '98, Columbia Med School '03, Father '05)

Deerfield School Meeting in LA

The Kaufmann Era Checks In: Kelly Turner '93, Pat Duncan '93, Annabelle Richardson '94, Judas Hicks '94, Cynthia Richards '94, Martina Love '92, me (Mikey Glazer '94)

The Deerfield Community of Los Angeles met the new Headmaster, Dr. Margarita Curtis O'Brien (formerly of Andover), on Wednesday night, March 7. In typical DA meal style, there was some hanging around in the lobby talking, followed by a everyone herding in to a room, and then the newly monikered "Head of School" spoke from a dais and a microphone.

Bulletin Items picked up:
  • The Gilbane built science center was finally opened in February and appears to have some sort of Greer Store rival tucked inside.
  • King Abdullah (DA '80, King of Jordan 'current) opens his own Academy this fall. DA Teachers Suzanne Hannay and John Palmer are going to teach English there for the inaugural year.
  • During the Q&A, Max Williams ('92, Harvard '96) asked the new Head if she would consider moving school meetings down to the river. (Seriously)
  • I got my Scroll subscription renewed. Just in time to read the story on p.4 "How Faculty Couples Fell in Love".
  • Martina Love Harris ('92) turned her nose up at an early '90s photo (above), saying that the Class of '92, with a trustee already, was superior to her peer classes.
  • Pat Duncan ('93), famous as "that hippie guy", was ironically totally unrecognizable in class dress, with wife Meredith.
  • Also in attendance but not pictured: John Antonini ('92, Senior Party DJ '94, Duke '96) and lots of members of the class of '98 and '01.
RELATED: Sam Sheridan (DA '93, Harvard '97) trains himself in every gruesome violent fighting style and writes a book about it, "A Fighter's Heart". Sam appeared on The Daily Show on March 1.

DA Wrestling captain Chris Harrick (DA '94, BC '98, Berkley MBA '05) comments "had Sam discovered his latent talents earlier in life, co-captain Wes Battle would have been JV Captain with Ed Amorosi." Ouch.

The 27th Mile

Rich Leist (Muskeegan High School, MI '98, Young Americans Singing Group '00s) did not go out last night. He instead spent 4 hours and 4 minutes this morning getting surnburnt like a Arkansas couch potato at a Sandals resort while burning off thousands of calories. David Shumsky (U of AZ Track Scholarship '97, Deal or No Deal Model Casting Director '05) also completed 26.2 miles around LA in 5:30 running the LA Marathon.

Even on Sunday night, hours after the race was over, both athletes continued their write-in campaign to have Cabo Cantina as the official water stop on the course. Good luck for next year.
