LA Times Bestows "Royalty"

There was Elvis, and then Lebron, and in the summer of 2008, Kunitz.

Today's LA Times (Mon 14 June) calls FOTC.N (Friend of TheCHIMP.net) Matt Kunitz (Torrey Pines '86, USC '90) "The King of Reality TV".

EVEN people who detest his brand of reality shows would be well-advised not to wrestle Matt Kunitz in the mud. For one thing, the guy just knows too much about mud.

What "Wipeout" won't do is enhance Kunitz's reputation among cultural critics who accuse reality TV of rotting Americans' souls....

Those TV ratings that appear in the upper left corner never caught on, but today's New York Times joins others in accusing friendly ABC of airing XXX content during the 8 PM "family hour".

My next thought was "Congrats Elisabeth Hasslebeck (BC '98, The View ' current) for regaining the crown of "Most Successful Reality Show Alum" of all time.

Chris Harrick Picks Fight with the New Yorker - and Wins

In 2005, Time Magazine named popculture scientist Malcolm Gladwell (Univ of Toronto '84, The Tipping Point '00) one of the "100 most influential people". Chris Harrick disagrees.

Putting pen to paper, Chris (Deerfield '94, B.C. '98, UC Berkeley Business '05) challenged the intellectual icon on a recent New Yorker story having something to do with men in suits having the same weird machine in thought bubbles above their heads.

"I have never sent a letter to the editor ever in my life. which makes me 1 for 1. The article by Gladwell was just so bad and off the mark I had to send, " Harrick told TheCHIMP.net exclusively.

With Harrick's counter-argument now embarassing Gladwell on his home turf, the former wrestling star has performed a triple take-down of Gladwell, TIME and the New Yorker in one shot. Congrats, grappler.

NYC TV Upfronts: Boom Boom Room Celeb Moms and Dads

We had the privilege of working on another incarnation of the hugely successful Boom Boom Room, this time for NYC parents and talent. Marc Malkin (E!'s gossip guru 'current) jumped all over it, even from 3400 miles away.

E!'s new round the clock video segments have to be denting our TMZ and X17 friends.

Deerfield Walks the Catwalk on "Project Runway"

Marcia Mitchell (Deerfield '01, Tufts '05) debuted as one of the new models on Bravo's smash fashion designer competition, Project Runway, last night. (Thurs, 11.15).

Marcia consistently mentions D.A. in her press, saying she credits Deerfield for "giving her the steely reserve required to make it in the fashion industry."

Marcia, welcome to the newest Deerfield extra-curricular: Hit TV Show Club. Other members? The Deerfield duo killing it as adversaries on LOST, Nestor Carbonell (Deerfield '86, CBS's Cane 'current) and Matthew Fox (Deerfield '85, Party of Five '98). Coincidentally, they also worked together on "Smoking Aces".

I visited legendary LA dive bars to perform pseudo-scientific experiments on their cocktails, looking for the strongest, cheapest, coldest, and blowing in to a breathalyzer to quality check each drink etc.

It published today over here, and based on the results, they just commissioned “Hangover Chemistry”, a follow up piece. If anyone wants to come on the “field tests”, there are always openings for “lab assistants”.

Barry Bonds' record tying 755th homerun landed at his feet in San Diego last night (Sat 4 Aug) during the Padres 3-2 win over the Giants. Too busy celebrating, the guy 16 inches infront of him scooped up the ball (white shirt, being choked).

US Swedish Relations Cemented in Historic Ricci/Svennson Accords

Following the historic international impact of Max Ricci (Moses Brown '94, BC '98) and Sara Svennson's (Malmo H.S. (Sweden) '98) uniting of two cultures, there are rumors circulating that US Ambassador Wood is on his way out. At least the Nobel Prize is a lock for next year, as they celebrated at the Grand Hotel, site of the Nobel Prize winners' banquet each year. Their banquet trumped it.

Although a bit expired, TheCHIMP.net's recent Boston field trip uncovered a more bashful side of one of our own.

Boston Common magazine chose Steven Frumin (Northeastern '94) as one of the 86 most (???) singles who belong in a figurative "Black Book" for the city. Squished into a steaming orgy of local news babes and Harvard country club lawyers, the rag characterized him with 4 cartoon doodles:

• Hot apple pie -- means "Can take home to mama" (True)
  
• Baseball Hat -- means "Sporty" (uhhh...not so much)
  
• Funnel --means ...self explanatory (True)
  
• Martini Glass: -- means "Bon Vivant - which we think means "double funnel, but in a brooks brothers frequent buyers party kind of way too"

From P.A. to TV Star - 2 True Hollywood Stories

Two former casting PA's, who sweat away 6 months of their prime "I just graduated college" era in LA jockeying a dub rack and fiddling with databases have traveled the circumference of the karmic circle. After making idiot people famous on reality TV, they have hit the airwaves themselves.

Sam Friedlander (Vanderbilt '00, Fear Factor PA '01, USC Film School '03) has made it to the final 9 of the 'Steve' Spielberg/Mark Burnett FOX reality show "On the Lot". The ratings "are in the toilet", so Sam is the only thing keeping it on the air.



Sam's genius 1 minute film, "Replication Theory" got rave reviews from Brett Ratner and Spielberg himself. A clever 60 second laugh awaits here. Please "Vote Sam" when the show airs on Tuesday nights at 8PM/7c.

Meanwhile Ryan Muldowney (Jefferson H.S. PA '01, Slippery Rock Univ. '05), Deal or No Deal Spanish PA '06) was re-discovered by Tyra Banks (Fat 'Dec 06, Skinny 'Summer '07). After catching the eye of a few NBC execs with his college talk-show Gettin' Later, Muldo first moved out to LA to PA on the spanish language version of Deal or No Deal.

Tyra handpicked Ryan as "the archetypal guy" who could take a cute young lesbian on her first ever coed date and convert her to men. Tyra called it "Dating outside your comfort zone." We called it "Tongue Action". See for yourself.

Congrats to both Sam and Ryan for bringing honor and accolade to reality casting departments everywhere - the real fame factories in Hollywood.

Hot Latino Teens, (Marketing towards)

The multicultural Gonzalo Perez (Sharon (MA) H.S. '93, Syracuse '97, MTV NY '03, MTV LA 'current) shares a multisexual encounter with Bobby P. (Danbury (CT) H.S. '93, Syracuse '97, Philanderer ' current).

Gonzalo Perez strikes fear in the hearts of Telemundo and Shakira, as MTV's hired gun to climb inside the psyche of bicultural latino teens.

As a featured guest at last weeks Latino Billboard Awards, reporters hounded him for interview bytes, many of which turned up on the AP and Yahoo's homepage.

4 of a Kind = Party+TV+Internet+Me

Making a cocktail of a TV past, a party planning past and future, and an ongoing active web pursuit seen here- producing a TV themed website's launch party smelled like a pretty good recipe from the start, and it tasted good when it was swallowed by 440 people this week.
For the past 6 weeks I have been producing “TV Guide’s SeenOn.com Launch Party”. It went down at Boulevard3 on Wednesday night, December 6. SeenOn.com is the site that lets you buy everything TV characters wear, touch, drive, sleep in, sleep on, and even sleep around with from the top network TV shows. We recreated TV's most popular sets and scenes here, check it out.
Be assured, I haven’t been working on a party for “The Mega Onion Chopper”, “Pure Moods III”, or a “Super Bedazzler”…it wasn’t that type of “As Seen on TV” crap.
There was a gold carpet, TV dinners, real celebrities, fake celebrities, and real models fake acting like characters from popular shows to bring actual sets from Grey’s Anatomy, a recreated Wisteria Lane, and Las Vegas to life.

For actual party coverage, I leave it to the pros:

• TMZ.....Annoints the party with Paris Hilton on the scene…….
• PAGE SIX….calls out Kristen Bell ( “Veronica Mars”) for her bad behavior at the party….saying she “went martian”.
• US Weekly…is nicer to Kristen Bell showing her autographing a designer’s bust mannequin from Project Runway.
• Hollyscoop…Diana Magpapian and her UCSB crew (who should be the real TwentyFourSeven cast) once again scoop me with the best encapsulation of the event that is pitch perfect
• Pink is the New Blog...Trent wonders why Kristen Bell was hording gift bags .. (via LA.com)
• Duck Soup gives a shout out to the party planner. YEAHHHHHHHH!
• and the hosts themselves, SeenOn.com, act as "the Governor's Ball" of party coverage that I could never equal
